Is it safe to install a gas water heater in a beauty salon? I am afraid of installing one because of all the chemicals we are using???

Thanks,

Gas water heater installation

It is important for you to review all the requirements for venting the water heater, and that includes the proper combustion and ventilation air delivery to the unit.

If there is not enough air delivered to the gas water heater you might expect many operation problems, improper combustion and not hot water.

Gas water heaters can be installed in beauty shops but the following must be observed, as the contaminated air is a big problem. If the combustion air is contaminated, this can greatly reduce the life span of the unit and its elements.

The contaminants are coming from chemicals used in cleaning, aerosol sprays, beauty shop supplies, anything that contains sulfur, chlorine and fluorine. The products that contained these elements should not be stored near the water heaters, as its vapors are very flammable and highly corrosive.

In order to avoid these problems recommendation is to install a direct vent water heater which uses the combustion air directly from the outside atmosphere by using the sealed pipe and sealed combustion chamber. Also, the area where the water heater is installed must be open and able to provide sufficient amount of non-contaminated combustion air. Any water heater failure due to air contamination is excluded from warranty.
