GE Water Heaters
Reliable Water Heating

Explore electric, gas, and hybrid water heaters from General Electric, designed for traditional tank and advanced tankless water heating in residential applications. See the advantages, benefits, and buying tips.

Thomas Edison founded the General Electric company in 1907, and for over a hundred years, it was, and is, one of the most trusted and recognized names in the HVAC industry and wide, in the US and Canada.

Water heaters are sold under the GE name but are designed and built by the Rheem manufacturer.

Various GE water heaters are available for your residential hot water heating, from the small point-of-use or whole-house heaters powered by gas or electric to the advanced tankless gas and electric heat pumps.

The majority of the General Electric water heaters are standard or conventional tank-type models with a decent offer of the most popular sizes like 40 and 50 gallons. Small sizes, such as the point-of-use, are ideal for supplemental heating and fast hot water delivery, while tankless is used for on-demand delivery.

Conventional tank-type electric water heaters from GE can be found from the smallest 2.5-gallon size to the large 80-gallon tanks, and based on the size, demand, and water heating needs, you can buy models with one or two heating elements.

General Electric offers a limited warranty on its electric heaters of 6, 9, and 12 years.

The most efficient model among water heaters that utilize electric heating elements and heat pump technology is the GE hybrid, known as GeoSpring. It comes with a high energy factor of 2.3, and this is the only Energy Star qualified electric unit.

It operates similar to A/C but in reverse, heats water either using electric heating elements, heat pump or combined, while saving energy up to 62%, compared to standard heaters.

Conventional gas-type heaters from GE are built in a capacity range from 28 gallons and are recommended for small houses and condos, while large units for multiple-bath homes. GE gas water heaters are factory set to use natural or propane gas and use a simple pilot ignition to light the gas burner inside the combustion chamber.

As the electric models, 6, 9, and a 12-year warranty are also available for gas units, where the patented SmartShield Sensor System and the self-cleaning system apply only to 9 and 12-year warranty models.

Some gas tank-type water heaters are Energy Star qualified, and these models come with an energy factor EF of 0.67 or higher. When you buy one of the efficient models, you will get a rebate (when applicable) and save as long as you own it (when compared to less efficient models).

Based on the location where the water heater is installed and your preference, you can buy an atmospheric or power vent unit, where the power vent is found only among 40 and 50-gallon gas models.

Tankless water heaters are another great addition to General Electric appliances designed to heat water on demand and deliver hot water in a continuous flow, using tankless technology.

GE tankless water heaters can be installed indoors and outdoors; they are equipped with the latest technology, including electronic digital control, freeze protection, overheating protection, and are providing hot water to point-of-use and whole-house applications.

Where to buy GE water heaters

The Home Depot offers a one-year in-home warranty, which means that any faulty part or the whole unit will be replaced with the labor included if something happens to your heater first year. You can also buy GeoSpring hybrid heat pumps at mega hardware stores such as Sears and Lowe's, and it is often advertised as the new and revolutionary way of water heating.

Other tank-type and tankless GE water heaters are presently available and sold exclusively at The Home Depot.
