Problem With State Hot Water Heater

Hello. I am a State Water Heater customer. My home was built in beginning in June of 2004. On last week my water heater without warning began to gush out water.

The water came from behind the pvc ring around the relief valve. I heard a pop sound went to the basement and found that the pvc ring had cracked and the pressure from the water on the inside of the tank had pushed it away from the tank around the relief valve.

My service man from sears heating and cooling and a service man from Wells Heating & Cooling say they've never seen anything like it and that the only thing that can be done is to replace the tank.

I'm very disturbed by this. I've had several homes, each over fifty years old and the hot water tank last more than ten to 15 years. My home is as old as my tank: seven (6) years old. This lead me to do some research.

My State water heater tank says that it was manufactured in 2003, but according to the service man I was informed that looking at the last two digits of my serial number will tell me what year it was manufactured. According to my serial number my State water heater was manufactured in 1995. Can you please research my Model and serial number for the purpose of warranty and replacement. Model: PR675NRRS Serial: J03307895

No one should buy a water heater from a State Water heater. Twice I had issues and they give you a run around knowing that you have no hot water and can not fix their junk. The product itself is faulty and expensive. The customer service is extremely slow and bad. They make you take pics and will send their tech (in the area) 3 days later and then when I got a replacement, they won't pay for the installation. I had to pay 2/3 of the installation cost. Can't move away from them due to warranty coverage. I would NOT recommend AO Smith and State Water Heater to anyone.

I am SMSGT Wood, USAF, Ret. The A O Smith water heater company has the worst customer service and return policy I have ever known in my life. On 7 February 2021 I purchased a hot water heater from Lowe's and it was very noisy when heating water. A O Smith would NOT give me a return authorization and just wanted me to do everything to fix the issue. They even asked me to repair/replace the heating elements myself. Five (5) days later I purchased a new hot water from Home Depot and it works great! My Military friends, please stay away from the A O Smith inferior products.

On the vacation setting, the water temp should be around 60F. My new propane State hot water heater maintains 120F at this setting. It has cost me $20 more per month since day 1 and 3 vacation days to stay home for the plumber. Numerous phone calls to State have resulted in 2 new thermostats which have not solved the problem. I sent a letter to customer support outlining all details so far and received no response. I submitted thru their online process referencing subject letter and received no response. I called and was told that the problem was probably due to living in So Florida - apparently an outside temp of 90F translates to 120F water temp!

Even thou I never had this problem with the previous 2 water heaters. I called their local service provider to troubleshoot. He only tested to see if the burner kicked on and off as he adjusted the setting knob and determined that the problem was due to me not actually turning it to the vacation setting. Problem persists! There is something seriously wrong and possibly dangerous and all I get is the runaround. By the way, they charged me $125 for the visit because this has been documented as a problem from the beginning, it is now past the 1-year warranty. This is really BAD customer service!

I have a State water heater and now I have little hot water pressure to the taps. The cold is good but the hot just trickles out when I clean the tank it comes out very strong so I expect the outlet on the tank is plugged up with sediment or scale. I have drained it a few times but not as often as I should have. This tank is 12 years old so it lasted not too bad.

Dad put in water heater 1989. It's 2019 still going. Guess he just bought in the right year.

Same thing here. State Hot Water Heater lasted 4 years. I, as well, have owned homes and purchased hot water heaters. This make is a hot mess and they should really stop selling them. I didn't purchase this one (purchased home with a State Hot Water Heater) and promise I would never purchase this brand.

Got one installed in October 2017 from the get-go electrical problems. The technician replaced a fuse in my junction box claiming it was a faulty fuse. Four months later it began blowing fuse in my home. Come to find out there is a wire grounding in the water heater itself!! waiting for a replacement fours days without hot water!
STAY AWAY FROM STATE!!

Twice I've owned State Water heaters that came with the last two homes I bought. First one constant headache constant fault codes and eventually went out. well second one I am trying to figure out as I am writing this. Fault codes!!!! Its in a clean furnace room and professionally installed. Annual maintenance checks and 6 years old. Been having problems off and on all this year and now Im ready to replace and never buy this product again. Horrible.

We have had the same problem! State water heaters only last 4 years. We installed one in 2005; it went bad in 2009. They gave us another under warranty and just this past weekend it burst again emptying all of its water out onto my floor. The most these State brand water heaters are good for is 4 years! The total warranty was 6 years and they are not replacing this one...however I would never ever get this brand again! There has to be something faulty in the manufacturing of this brand! Stay away from it at all costs! Or it will cost you...and not just to put in a water heater...it cost us over $700 to have our carpets extracted and baseboards repaired!

Serial Number first 3 digits indicate date of manufacture. Letter corresponds to month and next two digits are the last two digits of the year it was made. So J03 would be Oct (J is 10th letter and Oct. is 10th month) and 03 is for 2003.
