Ouch! The Atwood G6A-6E water heater in my trailer is too hot.

The hot water seems overly hot. I believe this is a waste of energy because the hotter the water, the faster it loses heat. I also scald my fingers when I rinse a dish. There must be a temperature control somewhere on the appliance. Is it adjustable? If it is fixed, might it be faulty.
I think the heater went into a lockout condition on at least one occasion but I wasn't aware of that feature at the time.

My hot water heater is an Atwood 6 gallon tank..and hot water poured out of the back of my camper and it's really HOT!..it kept tripping the breaker !..what is happening?

Water temps approaching 180 degrees F. I do not understand why Atwood allows these excessive limits. Wait until a person or especially a child is scalded. Too bad it would take a tragedy to get Atwood to remedy this overheating situation. Is it only the temp and ECO sensors that can cause this malfunction? Ive tried and unplugged 1 brown wire when water is very hot and the flame goes out. Hook it back up and flame reignites. Never shuts off on its own. Hopefully replacing both sensors fixes this dangerous malfunction.

Thank you to the "Anonymous" reader or readers who responded to my post. I will try both ideas as soon as I get out to the lake this spring. The water heater question sort of slipped into the background because it was still working (or overworking) whereas two other appliances were either acting up or not acting at all.

The thermocouples that sit against the tank, have to make good (heat conductive) contact... Suggest you pop them out (concentric retainer) and clean the backs with some wire wool and check the contact surface on the tank as well... Worked for me...

The Atwood G6A-6E is a fixed temp water heater. The water temp is 140 deg non adjustable. If it is getting too hot I would suggest replacing the ECO and the Temp sensors. They are the little units in the center of the outside door. There are two red wires hooked to the ECO and tow Brown wires hooked to the Temp sensor. The ECO is designed to shut off the water heater if the temp reaches 180 deg.
