Honeywell icon gas valve on bradford white tank malfunctioning after 2 years

by Don
(Reno, NV)

I am a maintenance supervisor on a apartment complex with 300 units. I have 144 Bradford White water heaters with the Honeywell Icon gas valve.

The other 166 units have the Robert Shaw gas valve. The water heaters have been in use for approximately 2 years, some less. Since March of this year I have replaced 20 gas valves, only the Honeywell valve. The valve body on these units is the part that is failing. The water heaters are used for a hydronic system so they are cycling alot more than the estimated amount for these valves.

The water heaters are installed in an enclosed closet off of the patio. These closets are well vented and also heated. My complex is located in Reno, NV. Cannot figure out why just the Honeywell valve is failing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Don E-mail: ...

honeywell icon failures
by: Anonymous

Have two different water heaters with the Icon valve setup. They failed before two years. Both failed to stay lit when pilot button is released. Thermopile voltage is 750 mvolts at the circuit board. Is the fault in the circuit board or the valve itself? What is causing the failures?
